1. Course Description
This course is designed to provide the fundamental concept of DC/AC circuits,
semiconductor devices and instrumentation system along with applications.


2. General Objectives
The general objectives of this course are:
To provide the concept of DC/AC electric circuit analysis and make understood about
the construction/working principle of DC machines, transformers.
To familiarize students with the basics of residential. commercial and industrial
electricity supply systems.

To acquaint the students with the instrumentation system.


3. Methods of Instruction
Lecture, tutorials, laboratories and assignments

Specific Objectives
● Visualize the concept of
electrical energy and current
flow in the circuit.
• Discuss the concept the Ohm's
law to evaluate voltage, current,
and resistance


Unit I: Introduction (6 hrs)
1.1 Role of electricity in modern society
1.2 Electrical energy: generation, transmission and distribution
1.3 Electric charge, flow of current in a circuit,electromotive force and potential difference
1.4 Voltage. Current. AC and DC current, power
1.5 Passive components: resistance, inductance, and capacitance
1.6 Ohm's law, temperature dependence of resistance and temperature coefficient of resistance


• Apply Kirchhoff's laws to
evaluate current and voltage in
different DC circuits.
• Obtain the equations for DC
electric circuits using different
theorems.
Familiar with different
electrical wiring and its
accessories

Unit II: DC Circuit (9 hrs)
2.1 Series and parallel circuits
2.2 Voltage and current sources
2.3 Star/delta transformation
2.4 Kirchhoff's laws, voltage divider and current divider
rule
2.5 Nodal and mesh analysis
2.6 Klectrical wiring, methods of electrical wiring, types
of electrical wiring: residential, commercial and
